I was thinking about using this for promoting inner pages on well established sites and making the software actually usable. But from Googles point of view it surely doesnt matter if its usable or not.

I have been thinking about this more and cant think why you would be penalised, essentially you are providing a free service and people are linking to you because of it. No different to the “buttons” niche or anything like that

I haven’t had any sites de-indexed or anything like that using this method. I mean as long as its not absolute crap like hundreds of single image screensavers or something, I don’t think it’s really that shady of a technique. Like I said in the post, some people actually download and use these things. Certain niches, like sports, I’ve noticed get downloaded more than others. I’m sure bikini models would probably be in that league as well. Just a couple ideas.

Great post, I read Eli’s post ages ago but never got around to it.
Reading some of the comments on his post though people mention it doesn’t work anymore or can get sites banned… is there any truth in this? What is your personal experience with it?
